Think of a pharmacist we’ll call Adaeze, 34, living in Manchester. She had learned to dread weddings, because somewhere between the service and the reception an aunty would ask, “My daughter, when is your own coming?”
One prophet told her she had a spiritual husband. Another asked for a large seed. For three years she prayed against the spirit, but never prayed about the old relationship that still hurt, or asked why she said no to every invitation.
What changed was not a formula. She made an honest list, got help to heal, said yes to new places and began to pray from faith instead of fear. “I’m not waiting to live anymore,” she says, “and I’m not afraid of the aunties.”
