If you are searching for 3 days fasting prayer points, you may be standing before a door that will not open: a job you need, a marriage you are believing God for, a health battle, or a long season of delay. Many churches in Nigeria, Ghana and across the diaspora call believers to a three-day fast at the start of a month, before a big decision or in a time of crisis. This guide gives you a simple plan for each of the three days, 30 prayer points grouped by need (breakthrough, a job, marriage and healing), 15 KJV verses, a short prayer and honest, safe fasting guidance.
First, a word of comfort: fasting is not a way to force God’s hand. It is a way to humble ourselves, seek His face and make room to hear Him. “Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting” (Joel 2:12).

Three-Day Fasts in the Bible
Three days appears again and again in Scripture as a season of seeking God before He moved.
- Esther and her people. Facing a decree of death, Esther said, “fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king” (Esther 4:16). God turned the situation around. Our full guide to the Esther fast explains her story in detail.
- Saul of Tarsus. After meeting Jesus on the road to Damascus, “he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink” (Acts 9:9). Those three days ended with healing, the Holy Spirit and a new life.
- Jonah. “Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights” (Jonah 1:17), and from that dark place he prayed and God delivered him (Jonah 2).
- The promise of the third day. “After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight” (Hosea 6:2). Above all, Jesus rose on the third day.
Other leaders fasted without a set number of days. Ezra proclaimed a fast “to seek of him a right way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance”, and he records, “So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was intreated of us” (Ezra 8:21-23). Nehemiah “fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven” (Nehemiah 1:4), and Daniel sought God “by prayer and supplications, with fasting” (Daniel 9:3).
What Kind of Fast Pleases God?
Isaiah 58 is the best guide to the heart of fasting. God says, “Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?” (Isaiah 58:6). The same chapter warns against fasting while quarrelling and mistreating others (Isaiah 58:3-4) and calls us to feed the hungry and care for the poor (Isaiah 58:7).
Jesus also taught us to fast quietly: “But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly” (Matthew 6:17-18).
A few honest truths will keep your fast healthy:
- Fasting is not a payment. God’s blessings are grace, not wages. We fast to draw near, not to bargain.
- There are no guaranteed outcomes. God answers in His wisdom and His timing. Sometimes the answer is yes, sometimes wait, and sometimes He changes our hearts.
- Prayer matters more than hunger. A fast without prayer is only a diet. Spend the time you would have spent eating with God and His Word.
- Your body matters too. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. A wise fast never puts your health at risk.

How to Do a 3-Day Fast Safely
Please read this section before you begin.
- See a doctor first if you have diabetes, high or low blood pressure, heart, kidney or liver problems, ulcers, an eating disorder, or take regular medicine. Do not stop prescribed medicine to fast.
- Do not do a food fast if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, a child or a teenager, elderly and frail, or recovering from illness. You can fast from social media, television or a favourite habit instead.
- Keep drinking water. Esther’s fast was extraordinary, and most ministers today advise drinking water. A dry fast of three days can be dangerous. The NHS guide to dehydration lists warning signs to watch for.
- Choose a fast that fits you. Common options are a daylight fast (for example 6am to 6pm, then a light meal), a partial fast (only fruit, vegetables and water, like Daniel 1:12), or skipping one meal each day.
- Break it gently. End each day and the whole fast with light, simple food, not a heavy feast.
- Stop if you feel unwell. Dizziness, fainting, confusion, chest pain or a racing heart mean you should eat, drink and seek medical help. Stopping is not failure.
💛 Fasting because of recurring night dreams or delays in love? Some women who fast for marriage also notice repeated dreams of a night partner, relationships that collapse close to marriage, or a heaviness they cannot explain. The Spiritual Spouse by Dr. Grace Osei gently explains what these patterns may mean and how to walk free in Christ, with prayers you can use every day. Read about the book →
A Simple 3-Day Fasting and Prayer Plan
Use this plan with the prayer points below. Set aside at least three prayer times each day: morning, midday and evening, plus midnight if your health and family allow.
- Day 1: Humble yourself and repent. Read Psalm 51, Joel 2:12-13 and Isaiah 58. Thank God, confess sin, forgive those who hurt you and surrender your request to Him. Pray points 1–6.
- Day 2: Stand on the Word and break every yoke. Read Ephesians 6:10-18, Colossians 2:13-15 and Isaiah 54:17. Pray for freedom from every hindrance and for your specific need. Pray points 7–12, then the group that matches your need (job, marriage or healing).
- Day 3: Thanksgiving, faith and the third-day promise. Read Hosea 6:1-3, Psalm 103 and Philippians 4:6-7. Thank God in advance, commit your future to Him and seal your fast in praise. Pray points 13–15, then points 28–30.
Write your request at the top of a page before Day 1, and write down any scripture, thought or direction God gives you during the three days.
3 Days Fasting Prayer Points: 30 Points With Scripture
Pray these slowly and with faith. You do not need to shout to be heard; God looks at the heart.
Day 1: Thanksgiving, repentance and surrender
- Father, thank You for the gift of life, for Jesus my Saviour and for bringing me to this fast. I come to You with all my heart (Joel 2:12).
- Lord, search me. Forgive every sin I have committed in thought, word and deed. Create in me a clean heart (Psalm 51:10).
- I forgive everyone who has hurt me, and I release them into Your hands. Let no bitterness hinder my prayers (Mark 11:25).
- Father, I humble my soul before You. Let my prayer not return void (Psalm 35:13).
- Lord, I do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from Your mouth. Feed my spirit during these three days (Matthew 4:4).
- I surrender this request into Your hands. Not my will, but Yours be done. Direct my paths as I trust You (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Day 2: Breaking yokes and hindrances
- Lord, as Your Word says, let this fast loose the bands of wickedness, undo heavy burdens and break every yoke in my life (Isaiah 58:6).
- Every hidden or open hindrance standing against my progress, I command it to give way in the name of Jesus.
- I renounce every ungodly covenant, dedication or soul tie that has held me back. By the blood of Jesus, I am free (Galatians 3:13).
- Every pattern of delay, disappointment and near-success in my family line, be broken in Jesus’ name.
- Lord, guard my nights during this fast. Let no evil dream or night attack steal my peace or my blessing (Psalm 4:8).
- Father, as Ezra sought You for a right way, show me the right way for me, my children and all that I have (Ezra 8:21).
Day 3: Thanksgiving and the third-day promise
- Lord, You said that on the third day You will raise us up. Revive me and raise me up to live in Your sight (Hosea 6:2).
- Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. I receive my morning of joy (Psalm 30:5).
- Father, I thank You in advance for answered prayer. Whatever Your answer, I will trust You and praise You.
For breakthrough
- Lord, I call unto You. Answer me and show me great and mighty things which I do not know (Jeremiah 33:3).
- Open to me Your good treasure and bless the work of my hands (Deuteronomy 28:12).
- My God shall supply all my need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). Lord, supply every need in my home.
- Let doors that have been shut for years open by Your hand, and give me wisdom to walk through them.
For a job
- Father, establish the work of my hands (Psalm 90:17). Lead me to the right job, at the right time, with the right people.
- Lord, give me favour with every employer, interviewer and decision-maker who will consider my application.
- Give me excellence and integrity in my work, like Joseph and Daniel, so that Your name is honoured through me.
For marriage
- Lord, You said whoso finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favour of the LORD (Proverbs 18:22). Bring me into a godly marriage in Your perfect time.
- Every spirit of delay, rejection or broken relationships working against my marriage, I break your hold in Jesus’ name.
- Lord, keep me from the wrong person and lead me to the one You have chosen. Give me wisdom, patience and peace while I wait.
For healing
- Father, You are the LORD that heals (Exodus 15:26). Restore health unto me and heal me of my wounds (Jeremiah 30:17).
- Lord, guide my doctors, give me the right treatment and strengthen my body. Let my health spring forth speedily (Isaiah 58:8).
Closing the fast
- Lord, let my light break forth as the morning. When I call, answer me; when I cry, say, “Here I am” (Isaiah 58:8-9).
- As I end this fast, renew my strength like the eagle. Let me run and not be weary, walk and not faint (Isaiah 40:31).
- Father, I seal this fast and every prayer with the blood of Jesus. I give You all the glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A Short Prayer to Begin Your 3-Day Fast
“Heavenly Father, I come before You at the start of this fast with a humble heart. Thank You for Jesus, who opened the way for me to come boldly to Your throne. Forgive my sins and cleanse me. I set aside these three days to seek You. Feed me with Your Word, strengthen my body and keep my mind on You. Lord, You know the need I bring before You. Break every yoke, open the right doors and give me Your answer in Your perfect time. Whatever You say, I will trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
A Prayer to End Your Fast
“Lord, thank You for carrying me through these three days. Thank You for every word You spoke to me and every burden You lifted. I trust that You have heard me. As I eat again, help me keep the closeness I found with You. Let my light break forth as the morning and let the joy of the morning come. I give You all the glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
What If You Want a Longer Fast?
Three days is a powerful season, but some believers sense God calling them to a longer time of seeking Him, especially when a struggle has lasted for years. If that is you, The 21-Day Deliverance Fast gives a guided daily plan with Scripture, prayer and safe fasting options you can adapt to your health.
If your fast is for marriage and you have been waiting a long time, Delayed, Not Denied offers gentle, Bible-based encouragement and prayers for the waiting season.

Common Mistakes During a 3-Day Fast
- Fasting without praying. Plan your prayer times before you start, just as you would plan meals.
- Announcing it to everyone. Jesus said to fast in secret (Matthew 6:17-18). Tell only those who need to know, such as your spouse or a prayer partner.
- Fasting while fighting. Isaiah 58:4 warns against fasting “for strife and debate”. Make peace where you can.
- Ignoring your body. Drink water, rest and stop if you feel unwell.
- Treating the fast as magic. Fasting does not replace wisdom. Keep applying for jobs, keep taking your medicine, keep seeking good counsel.
- Giving up if nothing changes on Day 3. Some answers come later. Keep praying: “men ought always to pray, and not to faint” (Luke 18:1).
Harmful Practices to Avoid
When people are desperate, some take advantage of them. Be careful of anyone who:
- Asks you to pay money, “sow a seed” or buy anointing oil, water or soap to make your fast “work”. “Freely ye have received, freely give” (Matthew 10:8).
- Insists on long dry fasts, or tells you to stop medicine or avoid doctors.
- Asks you to bathe in a river, visit a shrine, undress or spend nights somewhere unsafe for deliverance.
- Blames a relative, child or elderly person for your delay. Dreams and prophecies are not evidence against anyone.
- Promises a guaranteed job, husband or healing by a certain date.
Safe ministry points you to Jesus and respects your health, your money and your dignity. Our guide to deliverance from spiritual husband explains what biblical ministry looks like.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I pray for during a 3-day fast?
Start with thanksgiving and repentance, then pray about the specific need on your heart, such as breakthrough, a job, marriage or healing. Pray Scripture back to God and end with thanksgiving. The 30 prayer points above follow that pattern day by day.
Can I drink water during a 3-day fast?
Yes, and most ministers strongly advise it. Esther’s fast without water was a one-time emergency, not a command for every believer. Going three days without water can be dangerous, so keep drinking water and see a doctor first if you have any health condition.
What time should I break a 3-day fast?
Many believers fast from morning until 6pm or 12 noon and then eat a light meal each evening. Others do a full 72-hour water fast with medical advice. Choose what is safe for you; God looks at your heart, not the clock.
Is a 3-day fast biblical?
Yes. Esther and her people fasted three days (Esther 4:16), Saul fasted three days after meeting Jesus (Acts 9:9), and the Bible links the third day with revival and resurrection (Hosea 6:2). The Bible does not command a specific length, though.
Can I do a 3-day fast for marriage?
Yes. Many single women and couples fast for marriage. Pray for God’s will, His timing and wisdom to recognise the right person, and keep living a full life while you wait. If you notice recurring night dreams or broken engagements, our guide to the signs of a spiritual husband may help you discern calmly.
What if nothing changes after my fast?
Do not lose heart. God hears every prayer. Some answers come later, and some come as peace, direction or a changed heart. Keep praying, keep obeying and keep trusting Him. “They that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31).
Final Encouragement
Dear friend, three days is not long in the life of faith, but it can be a turning point. Esther walked out of her fast into the king’s court. Saul walked out of his into a new life. Bring God your need, your hunger and your whole heart, and trust Him with the answer. “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you” (Matthew 7:7).
