If you have been searching for deliverance from spiritual husband experiences, you may be tired, embarrassed and unsure who to trust. Perhaps the dreams keep coming or relationships keep failing. Please hear this first: you are not cursed beyond help, and you do not need to buy your freedom. In this guide we look at what deliverance really means in the Bible, the key KJV verses, whether self-deliverance is possible, a simple prayer session you can follow at home, how to recognise safe ministry, and how to stay free afterwards.
Many believers and ministers in Nigeria, Ghana and the diaspora describe a “spiritual husband” as a spirit that claims a woman in marriage, often through dreams. If you are new to the subject, start with our pillar guide What Is a Spiritual Spouse? and the signs of a spiritual husband. Here, we focus on the way out.

What Deliverance From a Spiritual Husband Really Means
In Scripture, deliverance simply means rescue. God delivered Israel from Egypt, David from his enemies and Daniel from the lions. Jesus described His own ministry this way: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised” (Luke 4:18).
Deliverance from a spiritual husband, then, is not a ritual owned by a particular prophet or church. It is the work of Jesus Christ applied to your life. Paul wrote that God “hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son” (Colossians 1:13). Notice the tense: hath delivered. If you belong to Jesus, the decisive victory has already been won at the cross.
Yet, as with every area of the Christian life, we walk out daily what Christ has already done. Deliverance often includes:
- Rescue: God breaking a hold you could not break yourself
- Renunciation: you saying a clear “no” to every agreement with darkness
- Renewal: your mind, habits and home being filled with God’s Word
- Rest: learning to sleep, love and hope without fear
Deliverance From Spiritual Husband Verses (KJV)
Read these verses aloud, write them down and pray over them.
- John 8:36 – “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
- Colossians 2:15 – “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”
- Isaiah 54:5 – “For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.”
- 2 Corinthians 11:2 – “For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.”
- Hosea 2:19 – “And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies.”
- Isaiah 49:25 – “Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.”
- Joel 2:32 – “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered.”
- Psalm 34:17 – “The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.”
- 2 Timothy 4:18 – “And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”
- Galatians 5:1 – “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”
Isaiah 54:5 and 2 Corinthians 11:2 are especially precious. God’s answer to a claimed “marriage” in the spirit is a better covenant: the Lord Himself is your husband, and you are espoused to Christ. For more Scriptures, see our collection of Bible verses about spiritual husband.
Can You Do Self-Deliverance From a Spiritual Husband?
This is one of the most common questions we receive. The honest biblical answer is yes, every believer can call on the Lord and resist the enemy, and no, you were not meant to walk alone.
On the one hand, Scripture gives every believer direct access to God. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). James writes, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). Jesus said, “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils” (Mark 16:17). You do not need a special title or a paid session to pray in Jesus’ name.
On the other hand, God places us in a family. “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much” (James 5:16). A trusted pastor or mature Christian sister can pray with you and encourage you when the night feels long.
So the best path for most women is both: pray personally and daily, and invite one or two trustworthy believers to stand with you.

A Simple Self-Deliverance Prayer Session at Home
This is not a formula or a charm, just a quiet, Scripture-based way to bring the matter to God. Set aside 30 to 60 minutes with your Bible and a notebook.
- Prepare your heart. Turn off your phone, open your Bible and invite the Holy Spirit to lead you. If you plan to pray this way over several days, our guide to fasting for deliverance explains how to fast safely, and the 21-Day Deliverance Fast gives a full day-by-day prayer plan if you want more structure.
- Begin with worship. Read Psalm 34 aloud and thank God for who He is. Deliverance starts with looking at Jesus, not at the enemy.
- Confess honestly. Bring any sin you know of to God. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). Shame loses its grip when it is brought into the light.
- Renounce every agreement. Say out loud that you reject any covenant, dedication, soul tie or “marriage” made with any spirit, knowingly or unknowingly. If past sexual relationships or old soul ties weigh on you, Unholy Covenants walks through closing those doors one by one. Our step-by-step guide on how to break spiritual marriage also goes deeper on renunciation.
- Resist and declare. In Jesus’ name, command every spirit that claims you to leave. Declare Colossians 2:15 and John 8:36 over your life. You do not need to scream; authority comes from the name of Jesus, not from volume.
- Give yourself to Christ. Pray Isaiah 54:5 and Hosea 2:19 back to God. Tell Him plainly: “Lord, You are my husband and my Redeemer. I belong to You alone.”
- Rest in His peace. End by reading Psalm 4:8: “I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.” Write down anything you want to share with your pastor.

Deliverance Prayer From Spiritual Husband: 12 Prayer Points
Pray these slowly. You may pray a few each night rather than all at once. For a longer list arranged as a 7-day plan, see our main prayers against spiritual husband.
- Father, I thank You that You have delivered me from the power of darkness and translated me into the kingdom of Your dear Son (Colossians 1:13).
- Lord Jesus, I receive You as my Saviour and Lord. My body, soul and spirit belong to You.
- I confess my sins and receive Your forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus (1 John 1:9).
- In the name of Jesus, I renounce every spiritual marriage, covenant, dedication or soul tie that was made over my life, knowingly or unknowingly.
- I declare that the Lord is my husband and my Redeemer, and I am espoused to one husband, Christ (Isaiah 54:5; 2 Corinthians 11:2).
- Every ring, gift, food or “agreement” received in a dream, I reject in Jesus’ name. I accept only what comes from my Father in heaven.
- Lord, as You promised, contend with him that contendeth with me, and save my children (Isaiah 49:25).
- I submit myself to God, I resist the devil, and I declare that he must flee from me (James 4:7).
- Holy Spirit, fill every room of my heart and my home, so that no empty space is left for the enemy (Matthew 12:43–45).
- Lord, heal my emotions, my relationships and my sense of worth. Restore what fear and shame have stolen.
- I will lay me down in peace and sleep, for You, LORD, make me dwell in safety (Psalm 4:8).
- I stand fast in the liberty with which Christ has made me free, and I will not be entangled again with the yoke of bondage (Galatians 5:1). In Jesus’ name, Amen.
How to Choose Safe Deliverance Ministry
Sadly, some people take advantage of women who are desperate for help. Real deliverance reflects the character of Jesus: humble, holy, kind and free of charge. He told His disciples, “freely ye have received, freely give” (Matthew 10:8).
Please walk away from anyone who:
- Demands money, “seed” or costly items before they will pray for you
- Asks you to undress, be touched inappropriately or meet them alone at night
- Sends you to bathe in a river, stream, sea or shrine, or to use charms and concoctions
- Beats, starves, chains or locks people up as part of “deliverance”
- Promises a guaranteed husband, baby or breakthrough by a certain date
- Tells you to stop medical treatment or keep the ministry secret from your family and church
Healthy ministry looks different. It keeps the Bible at the centre, happens in the open with accountability, asks for your consent, involves women ministers when praying for women, never charges you, and is happy for you to see a doctor or counsellor at the same time.

After Deliverance: How to Stay Free
Jesus gave a sobering picture of a house that was cleaned but left empty, so that the unclean spirit returned with others (Matthew 12:43–45). The lesson is not fear but fullness. After you pray, fill your life with God.
- Daily Word and prayer. Even 15 minutes in the morning and a short prayer before bed makes a difference. Our psalms for protection at night are a good place to start.
- A healthy church family. Join a Bible-believing church and a small group where you can be honest.
- Guard the doors. Stay away from occult practices, pornography and relationships that pull you away from God.
- Speak life. Replace “I will never marry” or “this will never end” with God’s promises.
If a troubling dream returns, do not panic or conclude that nothing worked. Wake up, pray a short prayer, read a psalm and go back to sleep. Our prayer against bad dreams gives simple bedtime and night-time prayers. Freedom is often a journey, and God is patient with you.
When to Get Practical Help
Spiritual care and practical care go together. Please see a doctor if you have frequent nightmares, sleep paralysis, very poor sleep, pain, or concerns about your periods or fertility. The Sleep Foundation’s guide to nightmares explains common causes and when to seek help. If past abuse or trauma comes up as you pray, a Christian counsellor can help you heal; the APA has a helpful overview of trauma. And if you ever feel hopeless or think about harming yourself, please contact a mental-health professional or emergency services straight away. Seeking help is not a lack of faith.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does deliverance from a spiritual husband take?
There is no fixed timetable. Some women describe a sense of release the first time they pray; for others, freedom grows over weeks or months of prayer, renewed thinking and support. Anyone who promises a guaranteed result by a certain date is not speaking for God.
Can I be delivered from a spiritual husband without a pastor?
Yes, you can pray directly to God in Jesus’ name, and many women begin alone in their rooms. Still, it is wise to involve a trusted pastor or mature believer who can pray with you and keep you accountable (James 5:16).
What should I do if the dreams come back after deliverance?
Stay calm. Pray, read Scripture and keep going with the habits above. Returning dreams do not cancel what Christ has done. If they are frequent or distressing, speak with your pastor and also see a doctor, because sleep problems can have physical causes too.
Is deliverance from a spiritual husband and a spiritual wife the same?
The biblical principles are the same for men and women: repentance, renunciation, faith in Christ and a renewed life. Men who are concerned may find our guide to the signs of spiritual wife helpful.
Final Encouragement
Dear sister, Jesus came “to preach deliverance to the captives” and “to set at liberty them that are bruised.” That includes you. Whatever you have experienced at night, the Lord your Maker is your husband, and He is not ashamed of you. Take one step today: pray, and tell one trusted believer what you are facing.
