Perhaps you have been told that someone is working against you. Perhaps your nights are troubled, your plans keep collapsing, or you simply feel heaviness in your home and do not know why. Across Nigeria, Ghana and the diaspora, many believers turn to a prayer against witchcraft in seasons like this. If that is you, take a deep breath. You belong to Jesus, and the Bible is clear that no power of darkness is greater than Him. This guide walks you through what Scripture says about witchcraft, how to pray without fear, KJV Bible verses to stand on, 21 prayer points, a midnight prayer, and the wise safeguards every believer needs.

Before we begin, one firm word of love: praying against witchcraft is never the same as accusing a person. We pray against spiritual powers, not against our mothers, aunties, neighbours, co-wives or children. Scripture tells us to bless, not to blame, and this guide will show you why.

What Does the Bible Say About Witchcraft?

The Bible takes witchcraft seriously. When Israel entered the promised land, God warned His people against every form of occult practice: divination, observing times, enchantments, witchcraft, charms, consulting familiar spirits, wizards and necromancy. The verdict was plain: “For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord” (Deuteronomy 18:10-12).

In the New Testament, Paul lists witchcraft among the works of the flesh, right next to idolatry, hatred, strife and envy (Galatians 5:19-21). That placement matters. Witchcraft in Scripture is not only about strange night meetings; it belongs to a whole family of sins that grow from a heart turned away from God: the desire to control, to harm, to get what we want by power other than God’s.

Scripture also gives a gentle but searching question to anyone tempted to seek help from occult sources: “should not a people seek unto their God?” (Isaiah 8:19). In other words, the answer to fear of witchcraft is never a stronger charm or a more famous native doctor. It is God Himself.

Witchcraft, manipulation and control

Many searchers today pray against “witchcraft manipulation and control”. The Bible connects the spirit of witchcraft with rebellion and stubbornness: “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry” (1 Samuel 15:23). Manipulation, intimidation and control can work through words, threats, money or emotional pressure as much as through anything mysterious. Recognising this helps you pray wisely and also set healthy, godly boundaries.

There is hope for people involved in witchcraft

The Bible never treats anyone as beyond the reach of grace. Simon, who had practised sorcery in Samaria, heard the gospel: “Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip” (Acts 8:13). In Ephesus, new believers who had used “curious arts” confessed openly and burned their books, “So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed” (Acts 19:18-20). Our prayer, then, is not only for protection but also for the salvation of anyone caught in darkness.

God’s Power Over Witchcraft

Here is the heart of the matter: the people of God do not have to live in fear. When the prophet Balaam was hired to curse Israel, he found he could not do it, and declared, “Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!” (Numbers 23:23). Later Moses reminded the people that “the Lord thy God turned the curse into a blessing unto thee, because the Lord thy God loved thee” (Deuteronomy 23:5).

The same God makes this promise to His servants: “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord” (Isaiah 54:17).

And in Christ, the victory is already won. “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8). At the cross He “spoiled principalities and powers” and “made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it” (Colossians 2:15). Jesus told His disciples, “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you” (Luke 10:19).

So when you pray against witchcraft, you are not begging a nervous God to try His best. You are standing on a finished work.

Before You Pray: Never Accuse Anyone

This may be the most important section of this article. In many communities, fear of witchcraft has led to terrible harm: elderly women chased from their homes, widows blamed for their husbands’ deaths, and children labelled as witches, beaten, starved or abandoned. This is not the way of Christ, and it brings grief to the heart of God.

Please hold on to these truths:

  • Our battle is not against people. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers” (Ephesians 6:12). A prayer against witchcraft is aimed at spiritual darkness, never at a named person.
  • Jesus commands us to bless. “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you” (Matthew 5:44).
  • Vengeance belongs to God. “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:19-21). We do not pray for anyone to die, run mad or be destroyed. “Fire back to sender” prayers aimed at relatives are not in the spirit of the gospel.
  • Dreams and “revelations” are not evidence. Seeing a relative’s face in a dream does not prove they are attacking you. Do not act on a dream, a prophet’s word or a rumour by cutting off, confronting or harming anyone.
  • Not every hardship is witchcraft. “As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come” (Proverbs 26:2). Illness, job loss, delayed marriage and family conflict often have natural causes and need practical help as well as prayer.
  • Children and the elderly must be protected. If anyone labels a child or an older person a witch, stand with the vulnerable person. Speak to a trusted pastor, and contact child-protection services or the police if anyone is in danger.

Praying this way is not weakness. It is the strength of a heart that trusts God to fight for it. Our guide to prayer against bad dreams for children also explains how to pray for little ones gently and safely.

Situations Where Believers Pray Against Witchcraft

Many ministers in African churches describe certain patterns that lead believers to pray against witchcraft attacks. These are experiences people describe, not proof that anyone is doing anything. Bring each one to God in prayer, and look for ordinary causes too.

  1. Troubling, recurring dreams of being fed, chased, pressed down or attacked. Our article on spiritual attack in dreams explains how to discern these calmly.
  2. Repeated loss or “near success”, where things collapse at the last moment again and again.
  3. Heaviness or fear in the home, strife without clear reason, or a sense that the atmosphere has changed.
  4. Patterns running through the family line, such as the same struggle appearing in several generations. Our guide to breaking generational curses covers this carefully.
  5. Threats or open hostility from someone who claims spiritual power, or someone boasting that they will “deal with” you.
  6. Past involvement in occult practices, such as charms, incisions, consulting diviners or shrine rituals, by you or by your family.

Remember: a pattern is a call to pray and to seek wisdom, not a reason to point a finger.

How to Pray Against Witchcraft: 7 Steps

  1. Come to Jesus first. Make sure your own heart belongs to Him. Confess any known sin and receive His forgiveness. Protection begins with relationship, not with formulas.
  2. Renounce any occult involvement. If you or your family ever used charms, amulets, incisions or consulted diviners, renounce them by name before God. Like the Ephesian believers, remove and destroy any occult objects you own.
  3. Put on the whole armour of God. “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (Ephesians 6:10-11). Pray through truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation and the Word.
  4. Pray the Scriptures. “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds” (2 Corinthians 10:4). Use the verses and prayer points below.
  5. Submit and resist. “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). Speak with calm authority in the name of Jesus.
  6. Forgive and bless. Release anyone who has hurt you. Ask God to save and change them. This keeps bitterness from becoming its own open door.
  7. Cover your home and keep walking in the Word. Dedicate your home to God, pray with your family, and stay connected to a healthy church. Our guide on how to anoint your room shows a simple, biblical way to dedicate your space.

If you want a calm, room-by-room approach to covering your household in prayer, Guard Your Home by Dr. Grace Osei walks you through it without fear and without accusing anyone.

21 Prayer Points Against Witchcraft

Pray these with faith, not panic. You can pray a few each day or all of them in one session. Each is aimed at spiritual darkness, never at a person. For more prayers, visit our main prayers against spiritual husband page.

Covering and protection

  1. Father, I thank You that I belong to Jesus Christ. I hide myself, my family and my home under the blood of Jesus (Colossians 1:13-14).
  2. Lord, You are my refuge and my habitation. Let no evil befall me and no plague come near my dwelling, in Jesus’ name (Psalm 91:9-10).
  3. I declare that there is no enchantment against me and no divination against my household, because I belong to the Lord (Numbers 23:23).
  4. Lord, give Your angels charge over me, my husband, my children and everyone in my home, to keep us in all our ways (Psalm 91:11).

Cancelling every work of darkness

  1. In the name of Jesus, every weapon formed against my life, my marriage, my health and my work shall not prosper (Isaiah 54:17).
  2. Every evil word, curse or pronouncement spoken against my destiny, I condemn it by the authority of God’s Word.
  3. Lord Jesus, You came to destroy the works of the devil. Destroy every work of darkness assigned against me and my family (1 John 3:8).
  4. Every handwriting of ordinances against me was nailed to the cross. I stand in the finished work of Christ (Colossians 2:14).
  5. Lord, turn every curse spoken over my life into a blessing, as You did for Israel (Deuteronomy 23:5).

Freedom from occult ties

  1. Father, I renounce every charm, amulet, incision, oath or ritual that I or my family took part in. I break agreement with them in Jesus’ name.
  2. I renounce every covenant made on my behalf with any shrine, river or family deity. I belong to Jesus alone (2 Corinthians 5:17).
  3. Lord, show me any object, practice or relationship that is an open door, and give me courage to let it go.

Dreams and the night

  1. I reject every evil dream, every food eaten in the dream and every attack of the night, in the name of Jesus. My sleep shall be sweet (Proverbs 3:24).
  2. Lord, guard my mind and my body while I sleep. Let me wake refreshed and at peace.

Manipulation, control and fear

  1. Father, break every spirit of manipulation, intimidation and control operating against my mind, my marriage and my decisions.
  2. I receive the spirit of power, of love and of a sound mind. Fear has no place in my heart (2 Timothy 1:7).
  3. Holy Spirit, give me wisdom to set godly boundaries and courage to say no to every form of control.

Home, family and work

  1. Lord, I dedicate my home to You. Let Your peace rule in every room and every relationship under this roof.
  2. Every attack against my finances, my job and the work of my hands, I command it to fail in Jesus’ name. Prosper the work of my hands.

Blessing, not cursing

  1. Father, I forgive everyone who has wronged me. I refuse bitterness and revenge. Save them, heal them and draw them to Jesus (Matthew 5:44).
  2. Thank You, Lord, that greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world. I walk in victory today and every day (1 John 4:4).

Midnight Prayers Against Witchcraft

Many believers set aside time in the night watch to pray, following the example of Paul and Silas, who prayed and sang praises at midnight (Acts 16:25). The Bible does not require you to pray at midnight; God hears you at any hour. But if you choose to rise in the night, here is a simple pattern:

  1. Begin with worship. Sing a hymn or read Psalm 91 aloud.
  2. Pray the covering prayers (points 1–4 above) for yourself and your family.
  3. Stand on God’s promises with points 5–9, speaking calmly in Jesus’ name.
  4. Pray for the salvation of anyone caught in darkness, and bless those who hurt you.
  5. Close with thanksgiving and go back to sleep in trust.

Keep night prayer safe: pray at home, not in bushes, rivers or lonely places; let someone know if you are praying in a church at night; and protect your sleep if you work or care for children. Our guide to midnight prayer points has 30 more points with Bible verses, and psalms for protection at night can steady you before sleep. A Short Prayer Against Witchcraft Attack

Heavenly Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus. Thank You that I am Yours, bought with the precious blood of Your Son. I confess my sins and receive Your forgiveness. I renounce every link with darkness, known or unknown. I declare that no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and that there is no enchantment against me, because You are my refuge. Cover my home, my marriage, my children and my work. I refuse fear; I receive Your power, love and sound mind. I forgive everyone who has hurt me, and I ask You to save them. Fight for me, Lord, and let Your peace guard my heart tonight. In Jesus’ mighty name I pray. Amen.

When to Seek Help

Prayer is powerful, and it works alongside practical care, not instead of it. Please reach out if:

  • Your health is suffering. Unexplained pain, weight loss, sleeplessness or fertility concerns need a doctor. Taking medicine is not a lack of faith.
  • Fear is taking over your days. Constant worry, panic or dread can be a sign of anxiety, which is common and treatable. The American Psychological Association has helpful information on anxiety. A Christian counsellor can help you pray and heal at the same time.
  • You feel hopeless or think of harming yourself. Please contact a doctor, a mental-health helpline or emergency services today. You matter to God and to the people around you.
  • Someone is threatening or controlling you. If you are being threatened, abused or controlled at home, tell someone you trust and contact local support services or the police. Your safety matters to God.
  • A child or older person is being called a witch. Protect them first and seek help from child-protection services, social services or the police.

Beware of Harmful “Deliverance” Practices

Fear of witchcraft is sadly used by some to exploit people. Jesus said, “freely ye have received, freely give” (Matthew 10:8). Be very careful of anyone who:

  • Demands money, “seed” payments, animals or expensive items before they will pray for you.
  • Names a relative, neighbour, co-wife or child as “the witch” behind your problems.
  • Beats, starves, burns, chains or isolates anyone to “drive out” witchcraft, especially children or the elderly.
  • Tells you to bathe in rivers, visit shrines at night, undress or take part in secret rituals.
  • Sells “protection” oils, rings, soaps or charms, or tells you to wear something to keep witches away.
  • Promises guaranteed results by a set date, or tells you to stop medical treatment.

True ministry points you to Jesus, respects your dignity, protects the vulnerable and never puts a price on prayer. You can also read our wider teaching on deliverance from spiritual husband, which explains safe, Scripture-based deliverance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most powerful prayer against witchcraft?

There is no magic formula. The most powerful prayer is a sincere prayer from a heart surrendered to Jesus, built on Scripture such as Isaiah 54:17, Numbers 23:23 and Luke 10:19. Pray with faith, forgive those who hurt you, and keep walking with God.

What Bible verse protects against witchcraft?

Believers often stand on Isaiah 54:17 (“No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper”), Numbers 23:23 (“there is no enchantment against Jacob”), Psalm 91, Psalm 121:7-8 and 1 John 4:4. These verses point us to God as our protector rather than to any object or ritual.

Can witchcraft affect a Christian?

Christians are called to take spiritual warfare seriously (Ephesians 6:12), but they are not left defenceless. In Christ we have been delivered from the power of darkness (Colossians 1:13), and greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4). Stay close to God, close any open doors, and do not live in fear.

How do I know if I am under witchcraft attack?

Only God sees everything. Recurring troubling dreams, repeated loss or heaviness may lead you to pray, but they are not proof, and many have natural causes. Pray, examine your life honestly, seek wise pastoral counsel, and see a doctor or counsellor where needed. Never conclude that a specific person is responsible.

Should I pray for witches to die?

No. Jesus taught us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us (Matthew 5:44), and Paul wrote, “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21). Pray against the works of darkness and for the salvation of people, never for anyone’s death or harm.

What should I do if my pastor says a family member is a witch?

Do not act against that person. Dreams, visions or prophecies are not proof, and accusations destroy families and endanger lives. Pray for your family member, seek a second opinion from mature, trusted church leaders, and if anyone is at risk, contact child-protection services or the police.

Final Encouragement

Dear sister, you do not have to sleep with one eye open or live in suspicion of the people around you. The Lord who turned Balaam’s curse into a blessing is the same Lord who watches over you tonight. Pray with confidence, bless rather than blame, care for your health, and keep your heart rooted in His Word. Over time, many believers find that fear loosens its grip as they walk steadily with Jesus.
